Making a fire is extremely important for a number of reasons. Fire is important to keep flying insects and dangerous animals away. Cooking, purifying water, and bandage sterilization is possible with a fire. It is also a tool for signaling help in a survival situation out in the wilderness.

To make a fire, you must have three things: air, heat, and fuel. Without these three components, fire is not possible and the rate of survival, in many instances, is decreased.

First, begin making a fire by selecting the best location. It depends what you are planning to do with the fire, to determine the best location. Keep your fire near your shelter for convenience. Also, in signaling situations, you will want your fire to be highly visible. Choose the area wisely before you begin the process of making a fire.

A campfire must start with small pieces of wood and then progress to larger timbers. Avoid collecting wood directly from the earth because it is probably damp. Damp wood will not work well to start a fire. Your efforts will be futile.

To begin a fire, you will need tender. Tender is absolutely dry material that requires only a spark to ignite. Paper, if you have some available, will work well. Dry leaves, bark, and grass also make great tender to start a fire.

Once you get the fire started, progress from the tender to kindling. Kindling is dry sticks and twigs that are readily combustible. When placed on a small flame, kindling should start burning quickly and easily.

Once the fire has begun burning, you can begin adding larger pieces of wood to the area. The fire can continue to burn well with proper maintenance and attention.

Your outdoor survival kit should include items to start the fire such as tender, a candle, and waterproof matches. A flint striker is another method to make a fire. This method provides a spark that will get the flame to burn.

The finer and drier the tender, the easier it is to start the fire. Fluff the tender well to simplify the fire making process. If the outdoor survival kit doesn’t have tender, use your knife to cut and chop dry sticks and bark to create tender. Remember the smaller the pieces the better. Place the flint striker at the tender and strike to create sparks. The sparks should make the tender catch fire. Sheltering the fire area from the wind when first making the sparks can be helpful.

Practice using these survival skills before an emergency to best be prepared. Making a fire is extremely important to survival. Learning the skill to making a fire will be extremely beneficial if you are ever placed in an outdoor survival situation.

Penny Stocks

Penny Stocks

Penny Stocks can be a very effective way to provide you with a secondary income. They can be used to create passive income because they do not require you to be constantly watching over them. The problem that most people have when it comes to stocks is – not knowing the right time to sell.

Penny Stocks can rise very quickly but they can also fall quickly too. The reason that most investors hold onto a stock is because the fail to separate their emotions from their actions.

All of your penny stocks buying and selling should, of course, be based on sound research both of the market and the companies recent history. How the company is doing in terms of profitability, whether they are just about to, or have just announced profits, losses or new patents, discoveries and products, can all affect your decision on whether, or not, to buy.

Knowing the right time to sell your penny stocks however can sometimes seem, as much an art as a science, although getting it wrong can be fatal. Many people seem to put all their research efforts into knowing what penny stocks to buy and when to buy them.

Investors seem to forget about researching to sell stocks. Instead, they let their emotions take control and sell at the wrong time. Investors selling at the wrong time fall into two categories. These categories are, The Runners and The Sitters.

The Runners like to take profit way too early. They see their Penny Stocks rise a little and sell because they dont want to risk too much. Ive seen it time and time again; these people set out to earn a 25% Return on Investment and end up taking profit at 1%. Someone who takes profit twice at 25% earns a lot more than someone who takes profit twice at 1%. Usually, as soon as they sell a penny stock, it will rise even further and theyll be wondering why they sold so early.

The Sitters are the heavily emotionally involved in their penny stocks. They are gamblers at heart and just do not want to let go of a losing position because it could bounce back any day now. When they do let go of their Penny Stocks – there is virtually nothing left. The sitters like to sit on a losing position. They like buying but dislike selling.

Do you want to be a Runner or a Sitter? Well, I hope you are neither. You want to be a winner. A winner will separate their emotions from their investment thinking and will also research when buying and also when selling. They will buy and they are not afraid of selling.

There is great deal of profit to be made from trading in Penny Stocks. But you have to know not only what to buy but also how long to keep it and when the best time to sell. The answer, as with most things in the world of finance, is good information and research. But that doesnt end when you buy. Find out why your penny stocks are rising and this will put you in a much better position to know when to sell.

Herpes

Herpes

Herpes while pregnant

As any pregnant woman knows, protecting your baby is top priority. For women infected with the herpes virus, this becomes even more of a concern. While the chances of a woman with  passing the virus onto her baby are slim, there is still a possibility that the child could become infected with at the time of birth. Talking openly with your doctor and educating yourself on herpes and pregnancy and how it can affect your pregnancy and baby are your best tools to protect yourself and your child. Following are some questions that you may have if you are experiencing herpes and pregnancy.

Can my baby get the virus from me?

Yes. While neonatal herpes occurs very rarely, there is a small chance (less than one percent) that your baby will contract the virus from you at the time of birth. In 90 percent of the cases, herpes is passed from mother to baby via an outbreak in the birth canal. In some instances, the virus can be spread even if there are no herpes sores because herpes can be passed asymptomatically, meaning that it has reactivated but there are no symptoms (sores) to indicate it.

I was just recently diagnosed with herpes. Is my baby at less risk?

No. Actually, pregnant women who were just recently diagnosed with the virus before becoming pregnant or during pregnancy pose slightly more of a risk for passing the herpes on to their baby. This is because a woman who hasn't had the disease for a longer period of time has not had as much of a chance to build antibodies to the virus that can be passed on to her unborn child. However, the risk of transmitting herpes is only slightly increased in newly diagnosed women, and women that get the disease during the first and second trimesters should still be able to provide enough antibodies to their babies.

Can I still have my baby naturally?

Yes. unless you are having an outbreak with active lesions, most doctors and obstetricians will recommend a vaginal birth as the risks associated with a Caesarean section far outweigh the risk of your baby becoming infected with herpes. Because of the antibodies you have passed to your baby during the pregnancy, your child will be protected against the virus and there is only a minimal chance (less than one percent) of the disease being passed on.

What if I get an outbreak right before I deliver?

The most important thing you can do if you notice an outbreak before delivery is to tell your doctor, it’s always best to be honest and let your OB know as soon as possible that you have active lesions. This is the best thing you can do to protect your baby because your doctor can then determine which is the safest route to take for delivery.

How can I protect my baby from getting this virus?

When trying to control this virus during pregnancy, the best way to protect your baby is to educate yourself and take precautionary and preventative measures to lessen your chance of having an outbreak, and discuss your condition frankly with your doctor.

Credit Repair Agency

Credit Repair

Self Credit Repair vs Credit Repair Agency

A credit repair agency advertises that it can help you repair bad credit so that you will qualify for that loan you need to buy a new car or take a vacation. However, you do have to be careful when engaging the services of one of these agencies because many of them will not provide you with any information. In fact, that is all you can hope for with a credit repair agency because you are the only one that can repair your bad credit.

If you contact a credit counselling agency, you will get valuable advice. However, you should not have to pay for this service. There is a wealth of information available on the Internet to help you with your credit problems and even workbooks that you can download for free. Instead of spending your hard earned money paying for advice from a credit repair agency, there are many tips and techniques that you can get free.

The main advice you about helping you to repair your credit is that you do need to request a free copy of your credit report. There are three major credit agencies that have a file on you and your borrowing habits. By law you are entitled to one free report a year and everyone should review his/her credit report at least once a year to make sure there are no mistakes. When you contact a credit repair agency, you may get a free report, but you might also have to sign up and pay for credit counselling services.

If you are having a difficult time keeping your credit in check and find yourself in over your head, then you might benefit from the services of a credit counselling agency. If you are contemplating bankruptcy, the people at these agencies can come up with ways to help you prevent this. The counselling agencies have people trained in dealing with creditors and will negotiate with them to take a lower amount of payment. They can also help you negotiate a debt consolidation loan, which will pay off your outstanding accounts. Just keep in mind that this type of credit repair agency cannot wipe any items from your credit report.

You can take charge of doing your own credit repair without having to resort to using a credit repair agency. If you are really determined to bring up your credit scores, you can start by making a conscientious effort to make all your payments on time. Maybe a consolidation loan is the route you should take. If you are just being remiss with sending in your payments and are not having any financial difficulty, you will just be wasting your money with a credit repair agency. Once you start taking charge of your finances, your credit rating will soon start to rise.

Do you really need a commercial credit repair agency? Probably not.

Can’t Sleep?

Can't Sleep?

“Is Your iPad Causing Insomnia?”

By Dave From Paleohacks
Creator of the Paleohacks Cookbook

Recently revealed: What the blue light from our screens really does to our bodies…

Do you leave your PC, Mac or TV on in the bedroom, as you drift off to sleep each night?

Millions of people do–without understanding the dramatic health consequences…

These wonderful devices changing our lives are all the rage.

Yet, they all do something which causes harm in humans. The blue light they emit impairs restful sleep.

How? Exposure prevents the release of melatonin–an essential hormone associated with sleep.

Unfortunately, blue light not only suppresses melatonin production and sleep…

  • It’s considered “carcinogenic pollution”–a recent murine study shows blue light correlates with higher cancer rates…
  • A lack of melatonin is linked to higher rates of breast, ovarian, and prostate cancers, while blocking blue rays with amber glasses is linked to lower cancer rates…

Not only is sleep impacted…

  • It also negatively influences thermoregulation, blood pressure and glucose homeostasis…
  • Exposure significantly impacts your own mood…
  • Lower melatonin in mice is linked with higher rates of depression…
  • And blue light exposure may be playing a role in the higher incidence of cataracts and macular degeneration seen today…

How Your Sleep is Compromised

Ordinarily, the pineal gland, a pea-size organ in the brain, begins to release melatonin a couple of hours before your regular bedtime. The hormone is no sleeping pill, but it does reduce alertness, making sleep more inviting.

However, light — particularly of the blue variety — can keep the pineal gland from releasing melatonin, thus warding off sleepiness.

You don’t have to be staring directly at a television or computer screen: If enough blue light hits the eye, the gland can stop releasing melatonin.

The Health Consequences Can
Be Chronic and Terminal

Not only does this impact melatonin, a growing body of evidence suggests that a desynchronization of circadian rhythms plays significant role in various tumoral diseases, diabetes, obesity, and depression.

So light serves as a cue, but how?

It has long been known that the retina contains two types of photoreceptors, or light sensors: rods and cones. The cones allow us to see colors, while the ultra-sensitive rods are used for night vision, motion detection and peripheral vision.

Surprisingly, neither of them is the body’s primary tool for detecting light and darkness and synchronizing our circadian clocks.

There’s a third kind of sensor in our eyes, officially discovered in 2002. Called intrinsically photosensitive retinal ganglion cells, or ipRGCs, these relatively crude sensors are unable to pick up on low levels of light — from a dim night light, for example — but sluggishly signal light (to read more, click here)

The Paleo Diet

By Dave From Paleohacks
Creator of the Paleohacks Cookbook

Unless you've been hiding under a rock for the last couple years, I'm sure you've heard of the "Paleo Diet."

I hate to even call it a "diet", because it's really just the REAL way that humans have eaten for almost 1.9 million years, as opposed to the modern day processed food diet full of grains, sugars, and processed vegetable oils.

Whether you have or not, what you probably DON’T realize is that it’s the fastest growing “diet” in the world right now. From celebrities, chefs, elite athletes… even fitness experts–everyone is eager to try it or adopt it.

And for good reason! Because no other diet or eating plan provides so many benefits so fast:

  • Increased Energy

  • Clearer Skin

  • Lean, Muscular Body

  • Enhanced Libido

  • Greater Mental Clarity

  • All Day Stamina

  • Better Workouts

  • And More

The list goes on and on. Talk to anyone who’s actually eaten Paleo for even a full month and chances are, they’ll rave about the changes they started seeing in their body.

How to Select a Numismatic Coin Dealer

How to Select a Numismatic Coin Dealer

Why do I Need a Numismatic Coin Dealer?

It is very difficult to build a collection of rare coins without a connection to a good coin dealer. If you are an investor hoping to make a profit with your collection of rare coins, building relationships with good coin dealers is vital to your success. If you are interested in making the highest profits possible with your coin collection, you will need to find a merchant partner who is experienced in the specific rare coins that interest you, and who will sell them to you at a good price. Most numismatic coin dealers will charge a lower premium on the sale of coins to their best customers. After all, it makes good business sense to get the most profit possible from a person who will do business with you only once. If you have a long-term relationship, however, the margin does not need to be as high for the coin dealer to make a good profit.

Because numismatic coin dealers are experts in their chosen fields, they will also have better connections than individuals who buy coins on their own will. Finding the right vendor or wholesaler can be a long and difficult task for someone new to the coin collecting trade. Coin dealers will also be more likely to recognize a counterfeit coin, have a higher chance of hearing about the sale of the specific rare coins that interest you, and will recognize an asking price that is over- or undervalued. As an investor, these are all critically important points for your success.

Building a long-term relationship with a knowledgeable numismatic coin dealer is the best way to protect the money that you invest into rare coins. All too often, new coin collectors who try to go it on their own without professional help end up being scammed out of hundreds or thousands of dollars.

What Do I Look For in a Numismatic Coin Dealer?

All numismatic coin dealers are not created equal, and it is nearly impossible to specialize in every area when it comes to collecting rare coins. Therefore, it's important to know what to look for before you select a professional for your coin collecting needs.

The first vital piece of information that you'll need when considering coin dealers is his or her professional qualifications. Some important questions to ask include, does the coin dealer belong to any professional groups? How long has he or she been in business? Can the coin merchant provide references from other satisfied customers? One of the best indications that a vendor has a high level of professionalism is a membership in the Professional Numismatists Guild (PNG). This group includes the most reputable coin dealers in the business thanks to an emphasis on ethics.

The second most important question to put to a prospective coin dealer is the area in which he or she specializes. There are so many different kinds of rare coins to collect, ranging from gold bullion coins to ancient Roman coins, that it is impossible to be a true expert in all of them. You'll want to find a merchant that specializes in the particular area that is of interest to you. A trader might be able to recognize every rare American coin at a glance, but that won't do you a lot of good if you really want to collect legal tender from medieval times.

Finally, you should consider the motivation of the numismatic coin dealers you are considering. A highly motivated coin merchant will go to shows and retailer auctions, keep abreast of current prices and trends, and will generally keep up-to-date with the current coin market. Any investor will recognize the impact of current information on profit levels. A coin trader who is highly motivated will also be more likely to provide you with excellent service and the best rare coins.

Once you have selected a coin dealer, it is important to reward him or her with your loyalty. You are likely to get the best prices and service from coin dealers who know that you are working exclusively with them.

Sweet Potato Pie

Spiced Sweet Potato Pie By

Oh my goodness it is almost Thanksgiving. I dread the preparations of cooking all that food. I hate the day before Thanksgiving. You have to spend all day preparing stuff so everything will be ready for the holiday. My way to relieve the stress of holiday cooking overload is to start early; like for instance making the pies. I start making the pies for Thanksgiving and freezing them. Then the day of Thanksgiving I put the pies in the oven and bake. If you premade your pies it's less work for you especially if you are the main one cooking which looks like this year I will be the culinary chef. One of my favorite pie recipes is sweet potato pie and closely behind that is pumpkin. Here I am sharing my sweet potato pie recipe.

Ingredients

6 sweet potatoes

1 ½ cups brown sugar

5 tbsp butter

1 tsp cinnamon

½ tsp nutmeg

1 tsp ginger

1 tsp vanilla

2 eggs

¼ cup milk

Salt and pepper to taste

1 graham cracker pie crust

Grab about 6 sweet potatoes and rinse them off. Put them in a sauce pan and cover with salted water. Boil the potatoes for about 30 minutes or long enough for the skin to peel off. Remove the skin from the potatoes. The potatoes will be extremely soft and mushy and need very little mashing. Put the potatoes in the bowl. Melt the 5 tbsp of butter in the microwave. Add the milk, butter and brown sugar to the bowl. Mix well. Add the cinnamon, ginger, and nutmeg and stir. Add in the vanilla extract. Crack the two eggs into the mixture and stir. Season the potatoes with salt and pepper to your taste. Mix all the ingredients well. Use a premade graham cracker crust. If you are feeling like a baker then make your pie crust from scratch. Using a store-bought crust saves time. Pre heat the oven to the temperature of 350 degrees. Pour the sweet potato mixture into the ready-made pie crust. Bake in the oven for 35-45 minutes. Remove pie from oven and cool. Serve with cool whip. If you want to save yourself from the burden of baking, prepare the pie and cover with the lid and freeze flat in the freezer. Take out of the freezer and into the oven to bake as above. I have made these in advance as early as Halloween.

How To Make Scented Candles

How To Make Scented Candles

Are you sick and tired of thinking of the perfect gift to give to your friends on their birthdays? Maybe you want to give something a lot more personalized aside from your homey but boring batches of chocolate chip cookies. You hate the thought of giving out generic gifts because you also very much abhor receiving run-of-the-mill gifts that go straight in your basement. It's high time you learn some do-it-yourself potential gift items that truly make the recipients feel honored to have you as a friend. One time, while I was out shopping, I came across this quaint specialty shop downtown which sells exquisite how-to book on scented candles. The hard-bound book, which include materials for trial, is fairly cheap so I immediately purchased it and went home delighted. The first batch of candles I made wasn't exactly perfect but was good enough to display at my room.

If you're the kind of person who likes romantic candlelight dinner dates or whose idea of relaxation involves quiet reading time by the nook, then the scented ones are for you. These candles come in variety of shapes, sizes and yes, scents that can surely fascinate anyone. Not only are these scented accessories a beauty to behold, they also have the ability to soothe you after a tiring day at work. One has the option to perfume these wax-made products using either synthetic fragrance or essential oils. Both smell terrific but the latter produce more aromatic scents that can generally ease stress. Essential oils, originating from barks and stems of certain plants and flowers like jasmine, lavender, cedar wood, calendula, and lemon grass, lend unique vibrancy and authentic sensuality to a candle. Fragrance oils, on the other hand, are less expensive but also very appealing.

Do scented candles really have certain health benefits or do they also have negative effects on your body? Actually, there are particular kinds or methods of producing candles which are thought of as harmful. Candle experts agree that wicks that are made from metal are dangerous because they often cause lead poisoning and air pollution. Always make sure you purchase a candle made from paper, hemp, or cotton wicks as they are more health and nature-friendly. Beeswax and soy varieties are also safer to use instead of paraffin. When buying questionable products, meticulously ask the vendor about the candle's method of preparation or the ingredients used. Make sure the ones you buy don't have chemical additives. Better yet, do your own ration of the candle. Through personally sourcing the materials and preparing them yourself, you can be assured you're using and giving your loved ones only the best.

Soy wax candles

Soy wax candles are made from hydrogenated soybean oil making them a natural product. Soy wax is a cheaper alternative to using beeswax and creates a long and clean burning candle. Soy wax candles can be combined with different fragrances and essential oils and come in all colors and shapes. There are many benefits to using soy wax when you want to learn how to make candles on your own. Creating soy wax candles is a very satisfying and rewarding hobby.

Some of the advantages of using soy wax to make your own candles include:
·    Soy wax candles produce less soot than paraffin wax candles
·    If you spill some of the soy wax when you are learning how to make soy candles, it is easy to clean up.

Bird Feeders

Bird Feeders

There is estimated to be over 100 billion individual wild birds on earth, and each one needs to eat certain amounts of food on a daily basis in order to survive. That’s where we come in! Bird feeders are fun to make and are essential in order for birds to live. Bird houses can be made out of practically anything and are usually hung in different locations around your yard for birds to enjoy. Purchasing a bird feeder is another option, however this can be expensive and both methods serve practically the same purpose.

The following is a fun and easy way for children (or adults) to make a bird feeder:

What You Will Need:

•    An empty milk or juice carton (any size will do)
•    String (must be strong)
•    Scissors
•    Stapler
•    Hole punch
•    2 small sticks or wooden rods
•    Bird seed
•    Markers, paint or anything which can be used to decorate the carton.  Ensure the paint is water based not to hurt your feathered friends and try not to use anything that can be potentially dangerous to swallow.

Directions:

1.    Wash and dry the carton thoroughly.

2.    Decorate your carton however you would like

3.    Using your scissors cut a square in each side of the carton (a square big enough to fit at least the head of a bird).

4.    Using your hole punch (or your scissors) make a small hole below each square.

5.    Push your sticks or rods through the holes from one side of the carton to the other (the sticks will form a “t”).

6.    Fill the bottom of your carton with bird seed.

7.    Punch a hole (or two if you like) in the top of your carton.

8.    Hang your finished feeder to a tree branch with string.

Although these bird feeders will not last forever (or even close), they are a fun, inexpensive way for children to learn about birds and the importance of caring for our wildlife.
